Banks In The Philippines And Their Celebrity Endorsers5 min read
Do you consider star power before transacting with your bank of choice?
As more and more Filipinos have become smarter at handling money in their journey toward financial freedom, competition among local banks has never been tighter. It has come to a point where every institution has to have a familiar face to help get their messages across.
“Celebrity endorsers allow a brand to connect better to consumers because they already have a connection with the public,” Allan Tumaga, EastWest Bank’s head of marketing and public relations, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Here, we’ve compiled the superstar brand ambassadors of top banks in the country for your convenience.
Megan Young for Security Bank
Security Bank did a major rebranding in 2014 and tapped Megan Young to be the face of the brand. The company believes the Miss World 2013 title-holder “personified what the bank wants to be recognized as: world class,” chief executive officer Alberto Villarosa told ABS-CBN. True to the bank’s tagline “You Deserve Better,” it sure couldn’t get any better than this.
Georgina Wilson, Isabelle Daza, Solenn Heussaff, and Liz Uy for RCBC
Why settle for one It Girl endorser when you can make it four? Well, maybe RCBC wanted to make sure no one gets left behind. “For RCBC Savings Bank, we want to show through the It Girls that customers can rely on us for their major life decisions,” says RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Communications and Marketing Services Head Donna Marcelo on their website. “With RSB’s consumer loan products such as MyWheels-Auto Loan, MyHome-Housing Loan, MyBiz-SME Loan, and MyCash-Personal Loan, buying a new house or a new car is simple, affordable, and easy. With MyLoans’ easy payment terms, competitive rates and payment options, it is the smarter choice.”
Manny Pacquiao, Derek Ramsay, and Angel Locsin for EastWest Unibank
The Gotinanun-led EastWest Bank has seen a phenomenal growth since 2013. Among its former endorsers are Derek Ramsay and Angel Locsin, who were superseded by People’s Champ and Senator Manny Pacquiao. “Pacquiao is a hero who embodies the excellent qualities of the Filipino spirit,” said EastWest CEO Antonio C. Moncupa Jr. during last year’s contract signing, adding that the bank could not have chosen a better brand endorser than someone who started as an underdog. “He has always been focused, disciplined and determined to win; and one who humbly dedicates his victory to God and country.”
Chris Tiu for Sterling Bank
Basketball star and Kapuso TV host Chris Tiu is not only the face of Sterling Bank of Asia. Little do people know that he comes from a family that holds major business names in the country such as Discovery Suites, TKC Steel Corporation, iRemit, and Sterling Bank. The Ateneo Blue Eagles star MVP and business owner carries the image of the bank as he demonstrates excellence and versatility.
Anne Curtis, John Lloyd Cruz for PS Bank
PSBank business development unit head Melissa Tong takes confidence in the Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz in endorsing their product. “Like John Lloyd, the PSBank Debit MasterCard is versatile, thanks to our partnership with MasterCard, which offers wider use and reach so our clients can now bring the PSBank Debit MasterCard, and nothing else, when they go out,” she said. Anne Curtis, the newly appointed endorser of the firm, attests to the promises of the product she’s promoting. “My favorite service is PSBank Mobile, which has proven very useful to me. Despite my hectic lifestyle, I get to check out all my accounts on my smartphone without stressing about going to the bank. It’s really a relaxing way to bank,” she explained.
Liza Soberano for Metrobank
Last year, Metrobank launched a new product called the YAZZ card. It is a reloadable prepaid card for young professionals who have yet to meet the minimum balance requirement of conventional credit cards. Rising star Liza Soberano, as the new YAZZ ambassador, agrees that the card is useful for millennials like her. “I don’t like bringing cash around because I usually lose my money,” she said.
Lola Nidora/Wally Bayola for BPI
“Ang dream mo, pwede nang maging totoo, dahil ito na ang tamang panahon,” the teaser goes with hashtag #DreamKo, revealing that the new BPI endorser is from the famous Kalyeserye, Wally Bayola aka Lola Nidora. And why not? TV’s most affluent grandma is known for dishing out sensible advice. Maybe she could help Filipinos live out their aspirations and achieve their financial goals too?
Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes, Nadine Lustre, and James Reid for Philippine National Bank
Just in time for the celebration of the bank’s centennial year, PNB got real-life celebrity love teams on board to represent the brand. Both DongYan and JaDine have been chosen to herald the bank’s “YouFirst” campaign, as it aims to provide a personal touch to make the customer’s banking experience a premium one.
Piolo Pascual, Sarah Geronimo, Maine Mendoza, Xian Lim, Richard Yap, Pia Wurtzbach for BDO
BDO, one of the most trusted banking company in the country, has a growing family of endorsers. Richard Yap and Sarah Geronimo are faces for the new debit card, while Piolo Pascual promotes for BDO remit. Xian Lim, on the other hand, is the face for car loans and mobile banking application. Meanwhile, the freshest endorser is Maine Mendoza aka YayaDub, whose commercial swiftly trend promoting the tagline “Abot an pangarap pag BDO ang kausap.” Side by side with other endorsers, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach joined the elite team on board just this May 2016. –Diana Lyn Balbalosa
