Undas 2018 Road Guide: Road Closures And Alternate Routes To The City’s Biggest Memorial Parks

Plan your routes ahead for November 1 and 2 and avoid getting pinned down in Undas traffic.

Every year, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) coordinates with the local government units (LGUs) regarding road closures and alternate routes to the metro’s biggest cemeteries and memorial parks.

To anticipate the massive flow of people visiting their departed loved ones, LGUs have already released their guidelines regarding roads people can and can’t use.

Undas 2018 Road Guide: Road Closures And Alternate Routes To The City’s Biggest Memorial Parks

To help you navigate the metro on All Saints Day and All Souls Day, we compiled the announcements of Metro Manila governments regarding road closures and alternate routes this Undas.

Manila North Cemetery

The Manila North Cemetery has access roads divided between the City of Manila to the west and Quezon City to the east. Although the City of Manila hasn’t released traffic guidelines yet, the Quezon City-Public Information Office already posted the reroutes within its jurisdiction

Private vehicles, public utility vehicles, and taxis coming from Balintawak  can take the following routes:

  • From A Bonifacio Avenue, turn left on Del Monte Avenue
  • Turn right on D. Tuazon Street
  • Turn right on Calamba Street
  • Once you reach Blumentritt Road, you can take any road you need to get to your destination in Manila

Another route suggested by the Quezon City government if you’re coming from Balintawak side is the following:

  • From A Bonifacio Avenue, go straight to Mayon Street
  • Turn right on NS Amoranto Sr Street
  • Turn left on Dr Alejos Street
  • Turn right on Don Manuel Agregado Street
  • Once you reach Blumentritt Road, you can take any road you need to get to your destination in Manila

Private vehicles, public utility vehicles, and taxis coming from Blumentritt Road on their way to Balintawak portion of Quezon City can take the following routes:

  • From Blumentritt Road, turn right on NS Amoranto Sr Street
    • For vehicles coming from Dimasalang Road, turn right on Retiro Street and go straight until they reach Blumentritt Road
  • Turn left on Commercial Development Center Street
  • Turn left on Angelo Street
  • Turn left on Scout Oscar M Alcaraz Street
  • Turn left on Speaker Perez Street
  • Turn left on Del Monte Avenue
  • From there, you can take the portion of A Bonifacio Avenue to take you to the general direction of Balintawak

Loyola Memorial Park

Despite its size, the Loyola Memorial Park only has two entrances, one located near A Bonifacio Avenue while the other forces visitors to make their way through the inner portions of Barangka.

Since it is not the only cemetery in the vicinity, expect traffic to be heavy. The Marikina City government already laid out its rerouting plans in anticipation of the surge of people in the said area.

To get to Loyola Memorial Park Gate 2 from Quezon City , you can take the following routes:

  • Take the portion of Aurora Boulevard and stay to the left to go to the Barangka Flyover all the way to A Bonifacio Avenue
  • Turn left on Plaza de las Flores/Loyola Street
  • Turn left on Paspasan Street
  • Turn right on Don Gonzalo Puyat Street until you reach the Loyola Memorial Park Gate 2

For motorists coming from other portions of Marikina and Rizal , you can use the following routes:

  • Make your way to Marcos Highway and turn left on Barangka Underloop all the way to A Bonifacio Avenue
  • Turn left on Plaza de las Flores/Loyola Street
  • Turn left on Paspasan Street
  • Turn right on Don Gonzalo Puyat Street until you reach the Loyola Memorial Park Gate 2

For motorists leaving Loyola Memorial Park through Gate 2 and going to Quezon City , this is the route allotted by the Marikina City government:

  • Turn right on Paspasan Street
  • Turn left on General J Cruz Street
  • Turn left on A Bonifacio Avenue
  • Turn right on Riverbanks Avenue
  • Turn right on Joseph Street and make your way to Marcos Highway through the service road ramp straight ahead
    • Alternately, you can go straight ahead to FVR Road all the way to Colonel Bonny Serrano Avenue or Katipunan Avenue

Tugatog Cemetery and Sangandaan Cemetery

For the duration of Undas, a portion of Marcelo H Del Pilar Street will be closed to motorists to accommodate to visitors during All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. If you need directions on how to wade through the road closures, here’s an advisory as reported by Manila Bulletin.

To get to A Mabini Street from Malabon proper , you can take the following route:

  • From Marcelo H Del Pilar Street, turn right to Dr Lascano Street, continuing to Paz Extension until you reach Samson Road
  • From Samson Road, stay to the right to go to P Aquino Avenue
  • Turn left on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue
  • Turn left on C-3 Road
  • From there, you can make your way to A Mabini Street depending on your destination

Arkong Bato Public Cemetery

The stretch of Cordero Road to the vicinity of Arkong Bato Public Cemetery will be closed to vehicular traffic until November 1.

Valenzuela Public Cemetery, Angelus Memorial Park, and St. John Cemetery

The Valenzuela City government announced that Padrigal Street will be closed from October 31 to November 2.

Polo Memorial Park

The stretch of Maligaya Street from the cemetery grounds to Palasan Road will be unavailable to motorists between October 31 to November 2.

Pasig Catholic Cemetery and Pasig City Cemetery

Since Pasig City Cemetery and Pasig Catholic Cemetery use interconnected road networks, the following roads will become one-way roads until November 1 :

  • F Antonio Street from CM Cruz Street to F Manalo Street will only allow the flow of traffic eastbound
  • The stretch of C Raymundo Avenue from E Angeles Street to Stella Maris Street will only accommodate to vehicles northbound

Meanwhile, alternate routes have been set up to accommodate those who will be inconvenienced by the reroutes and roadblocks. These alternate routes will be implemented from October 31 to November 1.

Vehicles from Ortigas Avenue who usually take C Raymundo Avenue to Bagong Ilog can take the following route :

  • From Ortigas Avenue, turn left on C Raymundo Avenue
  • Turn left on Stella Maris Street
  • Turn left on Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue
  • When you reach the corner of Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue and Pasig Boulevard, you can go to your destination

Motorists originating from Francisco Legaspi Street or Mercedes Avenue who wish to go to Bagong Ilog and nearby destinations can use the following reroute:

  • From Mercedes Avenue, turn right on C Raymundo Avenue, then turn left on Stella Maris Avenue
  • From Francisco Legaspi Street, turn left on C Raymundo Avenue, then turn right on Stella Maris Avenue
  • Turn left on Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue
  • When you reach the corner of Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue and Pasig Boulevard, you can go to your destination

Manila South Cemetery

As one of the biggest public cemeteries in the capital, the Manila South Cemetery is expected to cater to thousands of visitors as early as October 31.

Please take note of the following road closures that will be implemented by the city government until November 2 :

  • Kalayaan Avenue from Zapote Street to Nicanor Garcia Street
  • South Avenue from Metropolitan Avenue to Dr. Jose P Rizal Avenue
  • Pablo Ocampo Senior Extension from South Avenue to Zapote Street
  • Pililia Street from Dr. Jose P Rizal Avenue to Kalayaan Avenue

To navigate the streets of Makati during the season, the Makati City government released a list of potential alternate routes for Undas.

People going from Guadalupe from Manila or vice versa can use Dr. Jose P Rizal Avenue instead passing through Metropolitan Avenue and Kalayaan Avenue .

Motorists coming from the Circuit Makati and Zapote Area to Makati Central Business District, Edsa, and Jupiter Avenue area , you can use the following routes:

  • From Dr. Jose P Rizal Avenue, turn right on Nicanor Garcia Street
  • Go straight until you reach Gil Puyat Avenue and make a turn depending on your destination
