“A group advocating for the rights and welfare of overseas Filipino workers has set August 28 as “No Remittance Day,” following the Bureau of Customs earlier plan to implement random balikbayan box inspections.
According to Migrante International, the event is a way to show the government, particular the BoC under Customs Commissioner Alberto Lina, the OFWs’ sentiments regarding the plan.”
Following the most talked about “balikbayan boxes” that most customs randomly check physically which cause negative feed backs especially to the government, what can you say about this?
My sister’s package just arrived yesterday. Well, thank God, it was not yet open neither damage. As for the issue, the government must take action on this right away. Yeah, this balikbayan box thing has been a long issue now and the most affected people are the OFW’s and their family. They save their hard earned money to buy those things so they can send it to their families here in the Philippines. This is very unfair to them. And for this “no remittance day” tomorrow, i highly favored it. It’s time for the BOC to wake up and for the government to take a quick action regarding this issue.
